After our visit to the Domaine de Preissac, we arrived to the second castle – always in the Saint-Emilion area – for a visit, but also for a cocktail that started at a perfect timing since it was lunch time. By an external staircase to the main building, with a very modern touch, we accessed the restaurant “La Terrasse Rouge” which is aptly named because the terrace of the restaurant is covered with red glass pebbles that recall the grapes. The panoramic terrace offers a unique view over the prestigious Châteaux surrounding the estate: Figeac, Cheval-Blanc, La Conseillante, l’Evangile, Petrus, Gazin, Jean-Faure. After some toast with foie gras and macarons of all colors, we started visiting the brand new cellar designed by the famous French architect Jean Nouvel in 2012, located on the ground floor of the same building. The shape of the stainless steel tanks is really amazing! This castle is the property of the Fayat Group, 4th construction and civil engineering trades French group. Clément Fayat owns two other castles in Bordeaux area: Château Clément-Pichon (Haut Medoc) and Château Fayat (Pomerol). We finished the visit by a stop at the tasting room which is in my opinion more like a luxurious living room of a Hollywood villa than a wine shop. We received a warm welcome and tasted the two wines which were a pure joy!
