For 15 years I wanted to do it: climb to the top of the famous Tokyo Tower!
The tower has an old-fashioned and charming retro atmosphere. As always in Japan, I received a warm welcome by the staff. But since the inauguration in May 2012 of the Skytree there are fewer visitors. With its 333 meters it cannot compete with the modernism and the 634 meters of the new tower. What is funny is that you can clearly see the Skytree from the top of Tokyo Tower and vice versa but the Tokyo Tower seems very tiny seen from the Skytree. From the tower, you have a beautiful view of the Rainbow Bridge, one of the most famous bridges in the Japanese capital. For those seeking spiritual elevation as well as physical height, you can pray at the Shinto shrine perched on top of the tower. If you like to shiver you can walk on glass tiles that pave the ground in some places: you will have the feeling of floating in the air. It is interesting to see that some visitors avoid this space – you can feel the fear on their faces – and others will even hop on the window to check its strength!
